Othello
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Gordon Barr
“Perdition catch my soul
But I do love thee! And when I love thee not,
Chaos is come again…”
When Othello – refugee of slavery and decorated war hero – secretly marries Desdemona – daughter of a respected senator – they unwittingly set in motion a chain of events that will lead to disaster.
For in the shadows stands Iago. Overlooked for promotion and resentful of Othello’s happiness, he begins an insidious campaign of disparagement and treachery, determined to bring them down and not caring who gets destroyed in the process!
So will I turn her virtue into pitch, And out of her own goodness make the net That shall enmesh them all.
This summer, the stage is set for an intense and intimate tragedy of jealousy, betrayal and manipulation, all played out in the stunning surroundings of the Kibble Palace Glasshouse.
